High on Alta
After marveling at the beauty that is Alta Mountain from our perch atop Rampart Ridge the week before, I was very, very happy when Yet invited me to join her and Josie on a hike to the top. Who could say no to these lovely ladies*?
This hike had it all; Sound of Music-type meadows, glittering alpine lakes, hot hot hot (for the most part) sunshine, fantabulous views, excellent conversation, and, compared to my recent experiences in the Rockies (more on that later), not that many mosquitoes.
I had thought the ridge walk would bother me (given my ridiculous fear of heights), but I was completely comfortable the whole way. Success! I had also heard rumors of hundreds of false summits on the way to Alta, so when the (absolutely enormous) summit cairn suddenly popped into view, it was a happy surprise – especially since it meant we could finally partake of Yet’s famous summit brownies.
The only thing missing was JK. We haven’t been able to get out together much this summer since I’ve been gallivanting all over the place while he’s been stuck working way too hard on a project, so I might have to do a re-peak of Alta with him this fall when the berries are out. *munch munch munch*
*I officially can’t say the words “lovely ladies” without breaking into song.
